Digital_Heroes_Mozambique

Africa

In December, DW organized a blogging event for “Digital Influencers” in Mozambique. The goal of the event in Maputo was to get to know the digital scene in Mozambique better, to form a network of likeminded thinkers and to meet new potential partners. The most important topics from the event were social networks, citizen journalism and the pros and cons of digital platforms. The event was broadcast on Facebook Live.

In Congo, Afrika TV and Canal Numérique Télévision will be broadcasting DW radio programming in French and Kiswahili.

The newly formed Community Radio Association in Cameroon, which was supported by DW, has also led to 10 new radio partners.

The television channels First Digital, GHone, EBN (Eclipse Broadcasting Network) and NET2 TV are now broadcasting DW programs in Ghana.

 

Asia

DW has five new partners in Pakistan for its English channel: Systak Cable Network and Shaheen Tel Cable Network in Islamabad, Sky Vision International Cable Network in Multan, Showtime CATV Network in Karachi und Rose Plus Communications in Hasanabdal.

Topas TV is now broadcasting DW’s science program for the Indonesian-speaking market, Inovator.

 

Latin America

The Chilean broadcaster TVU has integrated several DW programs into its lineup, including Euromaxx, Todo gol, Global 3000, Visión futuro und Patrimonio mundial. TVU is a terrestrial broadcaster with a technical reach of 1.5 million viewers.

Africa
The news websites Focus Guinée und Guinée Signal are now DW partners for online content in French. The radio stations RTCT, Radio Télévision Communautaire Oasis and Radio Télévision Communautaire Ondese are now DW partners in Congo. They are broadcasting DW’s radio program daily in French and Kiswahili.

R2A Radio Azur in Togo is now broadcasting Learning by Ear, as well as the morning and evening shows in French and the evening show in Hausa.

In Cameroon, DW has three new partners for TV and radio. TV+ Cameroun will be including DW’s English channel in its portfolio, Canal2 will be broadcasting select programs like Made in Germany and Conflict Zone and CBS will broadcasting radio programs like Learning by Ear and AfricaLink.

UTV Ghana and Light TV are now DW partners as well, broadcasting programs like Kick Off! and Business Brief. Also in Ghana, Vision 1 is now broadcasting DW’s radio program AfricaLink as part of its lineup.

North America
DW is now working with MHz Networks in North America to distribute the English channel DW. MHz will now be broadcasting a three-hour block of DW from 15:00 to 18:00 (Eastern Time), which is picked up by DirectTV, more than 31 PBS stations and many other cable networks. It’s available in markets like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago and reaches more than 40 million households.

Online
DW will be one of the first media companies to be included in Apple News with its own channel. The app has been included in the iOS9 launch.

Asia
The Indonesian website kompas.com is a new DW partner. Kompas will be integrated DW’s online content in Indonesian to its portfolio. It’s the 11th most popular website in Indonesia with 20 million active users and 40 million page impressions per month.

Europe
As part of a new coproduction, DW’s award-winning lifestyle program Euromaxx is now available in Lithuanian and broadcast on the public broadcaster LRT. DW’s Arts.21 is also being produced and broadcast by LRT in Lithuanian.

Africa

DW is gaining ground in French-speaking Africa. Radio Kledou in Mali has been broadcasting DW’s French programming since the beginning of 2013 and continues to attract more and more listeners. It is broadcast from the capital city of Bamako and is also available in Sikasso, Kayes and Ségou.

DW has also signed new online partners in Mali (www.info-mali.com), the Ivory Coast (www.rj24.info), Cameroon (www.equinoxetv.com), Guinea (www.bolivar-fm.com) and Burkina Faso (www.mutationsbf.net).

 

Latin America

DW’s partnership with Folha – the largest news portal in Brazil – has been paying off. In July, DW’s content that is featured on the website generated 77,000 visits. DW has been working with Folha since 2006 and the partnership was expanded this May. DW’s editorial team delivers news and content daily which is then featured on a DW page on the Folha website, as well as being listed in the different sections.

 

Europe

DW’s video of the day is now being featured on the video platform Megogo.net. The videos appear in the main “News” category and are linked to the Russian or Ukrainian website at dw.de. Megogo logs about 13.5 million visits per month. Around 70 percent of its 16,000 hours of video content is free of charge and can be accessed online, via mobile devices and apps as well as by using SmartTV applications.

 

Asia

With PSI, DW has a new partner in Thailand. PSI is known as the knowledge channel and has programming that covers everything from wildlife and nature to technology, history and archeology. PSI is broadcasting Euromaxx daily and is available to 12 million households in Thailand.

Another TV network has added DW’s Indonesian science and technology magazine Inovator to its lineup. B-Channel has more than 20 regional TV stations in Indonesia and reaches around 75 percent of the terrestrial television market.

 

Online

DW expanded its Media Center this past month to include photos, audio and video content in an additional 10 languages, including: Bengali, Croatian, Dari, French, Greek, Indonesian, Macedonian, Pashto, Polish and Urdu. DW’s Media Center now offers content in a total of 25 languages.

Africa
DW’s sales team has once again made inroads in Africa. France Greber, Distribution Representative for Africa, and Thomas Mösch, from the DW’s Africa service, recently made a trip to Cameroon and returned with nine new partners. The community radio stations that have signed agreements will begin broadcasting DW’s radio programming this year – including programming in French and Hausa, as well as the new English program “Africalink”. With a total of 20 radio, three TV and two online partners, DW is now available nationwide in Cameroon.

Americas
DW continues to gain ground in the United States – it has now included in several new cable systems across the country with Comcast. These include Texas, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, making it available to more than 3 million Comcast subscribers. DW was previously only available in the Comcast systems in Colorado, Central California, San Francisco Bay Area and Southern Florida. In addition, Cox Communications has made DW available to its 600,000 subscribers in Virginia.

Asia
DW has expanded its partnership with the largest commercial station in Bangladesh, Ekushey TV (ETV). The broadcaster will include business features and reports from DW’S Bengali service.

DW is now broadcasting its television program to all of the Palau islands in the Pacific Ocean, after signing an agreement with the Palau National Communication Corporation PNCC. And in Indonesia, Mega Media MMI is the new nationwide DTH partner. Viewers will be able to receive DW-TV using their DTH satellite dish.

Europe
DW’S television magazine Eurobox is now being broadcast in Moldova. The coproduction with Teleradio Moldova (TRM) is shown on Saturdays, and rebroadcast again the following week. This is just a continuation of DW’s partnership with TRM – the station has been broadcasting a range of DW programming with subtitles in Romanian since 2004.

The IPTV provider HOL TV has included DW programming into its line-up. HOL TV is the first provider in Greece with HDTV and VoD. DW has also signed a partnership with the leading telecommunications provider in Bulgaria. VIVACOM has included DW-TV into its lineup and is broadcasting it via IPTV as well.
