Negligible News Day: Susan Sarandon And Bryan Adams Back Barack Obama

There are days when it's good enough to just kick back. Today is one of those days. Forget about Iran, Iraq, kooky pastors and controversial foreign leaders. Forget about Hillary Clinton's remarks, Barack Obama's gaffes and John McCain's bladder stones. Just for now. Relax and read.

Actress Susan Sarandon might relocate to Italy, Canada or somewhere else should John McCain become president. "If McCain gets in, it's going to be very, very dangerous," Saradon, who supports Barack Obama, told the Irish Independent. "It's a critical time, but I have faith in the American people. If they prove me wrong, I'll be checking out a move to Italy. Maybe Canada, I don't know. We're at an abyss." No word if husband Tim Robbins would also leave the U.S. By the way, Sarandon's new movie Speed Racer is now playing in theaters.

Canadian Rocker Bryan Adams didn't mention any moving plans should McCain win, but he also hopes for an Obama election victory. "I hope Obama will win," Adams said in Berlin, where his photo exhibition, Hear the world, is being shown. "Everything is better than what we have now", he added according to German news agency dpa.

What does all this signify? Nothing really. Just a piece of Negligible News.

Hollywood has done it again. This time it is Susan Sarandon holding America hostage with the threat of leaving the country if John McCain is elected. Although this tried and true strategy almost changed the course of history once before, the question remains whether the "Baldwin Gambit" is still viable.

This made me think.........

Please , oh please, do not abandon
a country that needs you, Susan Sarandon.
For we would all be quite bereft
to lose you like Baldwin (oh wait, he never left)

Thank God for Rosie and Charlie Sheen too
For setting our compass and keeping us true.
The do so much more than just entertain.
They also look down on us with disdain.

Everyday Americans, too stupid to choose
Need your guidance lest the wrong person loose.
So Susan please tell us, so we don't go astray.
We'll elect who you want, if only you'll stay.

You know, hundreds of people emigrate every day. Seems as I haven't liked her since "Thelma and Louise" 17 years ago, how many people have left the country without making a difference?

Famous Greek-origine composer Panayoti Karousos Back Barack Obama during his opera Alexander the Great presentation in Chicago and ask Greek Communities of Illinois to vote for Barack Obama as the best candidate to become the next president of United Nations of America and certainly among the most gifted democrat politicians

I completely agree with Ms. Sarandon. I love this country and am proud to be an American, but I lost all faith in our ability to choose a leader when we re-elected Bush. McCain is just another Bush. If we elect him, it will prove this country cannot redeem itself.

why dont these arrogant hollywood neophytes stop bashing the very country and government of which they have made their millions!!!! Go ahead and emigrate and see how far your "holier then thou" attitude will get you! Good Luck

She can leave now and on her way take her husband, Jane "the traitor" Fonda, Sean Penn, George Clooney and all the others that don't like it here. I guess if Obama wins they will get special exemptions for the taxes that will rise when the democratic congress raises them to pay for all the things they are promising and as more jobs get outsourced to other countries. Hey maybe Hollywood should move to Bollywood so they can ruin that country too.

Is her quote supposed to be some kind of threat? lol That's one of the great things about the USA- you can leave ANYTIME you want! There's no permission required! Nobody's going to try and stop you, there's very little paperwork involved, and it's reletively inexpensive. Take all your friends who want to leave with you- you could probably save some money carpooling to Canada or Mexico. I bet changing your citizenship isn't too difficult either. If you want to leave then by all means, GO! Hit the road! Adios! What are you waiting for?

She is absolutely right! Hollywood actors and actresses have a greater scope of what the world is all about simply because their jobs sometimes require them to travel and see other nations and and know their peoples. Besides, who wants to live in a Nation that it's government has ridicule the great American People and has caused irreparable damages to it's image. American government and it's peoples used to be admired the world around a few years ago. Today the American republican leadership has created Homeland Security like the Nazi's regime Gestapo and today the American Government has raised a great wall between it's neighboring Mexico like the Berlin Wall. Yes the government might tell you otherwise but they only have self interests and not American peoples interest.
Mrs. Sarandon is not alone, today there are millions of US Citizens that have left America for good to raise their families in better lands. I should know better I'm one of them. America a free country ? Please don't insult my intelligence. As I said to my friends before, : In America Live lives you and in other parts of the world you live live ! Most Americans now live in credit all their lives. Just read at what some bumper stickers say in the American highways Here is one: I owe , I owe and of to work I go !

Don't wait until the election, MOVE NOW!
  John | Homepage | E-Mail | 31.05.2008, 11:57

Ah-HA! She'll move if McCain wins. Yet, that means by staying through the entire term of President Bush, she approves of him. Wow, Hollywood sure knows its politics.

She's just being the good liberal, she has no idea what the issues are or how qualified the candidates are, she only knows black beats female. If there were a jew or homosexual running she would be confronted with a quanundrum.

The conservative government in Canada is nothing like the conservative government in the U.S. In fact, Canada's is a lot more libertarian, I dare say.

And of course her concern is the war, which is getting the States into a lot of trouble, especially economically, and it of course has its toll on the country and the people. Tax cuts also don't help, although they do benefit a few.

Both Canada and Italy are "uninvolved" compared to U.S. That's her point. Don't get caught in technicalities.

Don't leave America the pendulim is moving to the left. The war in Iraq is a fiasco, ludicrous in cost, humiliating in war propaganda,a failure in home land support, and a breakdown of our army. Thank you George.

The clueless person is YOU, jim!

She's not say that she's running away from conservatism, she's running away from militancy and warantless wiretaps.

She's running away from George Bush's America, not from Ronald Reagan's America.

Canada's conservative goverment, by the way, is a minority government with more MPs in parliament against it than for it.

A pretty safe government if you ask me.

She promised this when we elected President Bush. Why would we even hope for her to keep her promise this time?

Sarandon's promise to leave the US is good reason to vote for McMain. If Robbins joins her - that would make another reason.

Let's hope McCain wins...and these Hollywood nitwits can go to Canada. But I'm not sure why the Canadians would want these clowns in their country....Dennis, Green Bay, Wisconsin, US

Doesn't Sarandon realize that Italy and Canada recently elected conservative governments or is she really that clueless?
  jim | Homepage | E-Mail | 30.05.2008, 21:50

Adams figures that if McCain wins, Sarandon may move to his country, Canada, and he doesn't want that.
